Metal Crates

At first glance a metal crate or cage for a dog may seem strange and unnecessary — but there is no better tool for dog training! Read below why every responsible dog handler needs one.

Puppies are lively and playful, and in the first months of life they must learn an enormous number of new things! The crate is a great help in house training and teaching them that furniture and shoes are not chew toys.

Why a dog crate?

A metal crate is by no means intended for cruel confinement of a dog. Quite the opposite! Used correctly, it is used for the dog's benefit — and when properly accustomed to it, dogs feel excellent inside.

For house training:

If the crate is presented as the dog's bed or comfortable den, it will be used for sleeping and rest. Because dogs are extremely clean animals, it is unpleasant for even very young puppies to soil their bed, so they prefer to do it elsewhere. If the puppy accepts the crate as their own, there is less likelihood they will urinate or defecate in it — making it an ideal place for overnight stays or when we cannot actively supervise them.

For the dog's safety when we are not home:

Even the best dog carer must occasionally leave their pet home alone. Since dogs like to gnaw and chew, they can get hold of a shoe or piece of furniture, or even something harmful to health. The crate keeps our property and the dog's health safe. A metal dog crate is foldable and simple to carry, so we can take it on holiday or visits.

How to accustom a dog to the crate?

Steps: calmly introduce the crate, allow sniffing, reward calm behaviour; reward near the entrance, reward generously if they step in, don't close the door yet; throw treats inside and praise; when relaxed inside, briefly close the door and reward generously; gradually extend closed-door time; eventually leave the room. Important: release the dog only when they are calm and relaxed — never when they are tense, whining or barking, as this rewards unwanted behaviour!
