Cats are very fussy creatures who demand only the best when it comes to food! Wet food for cats is a great way to prepare a tasty and healthy meal for your cat!
Why is wet food for cats healthy?
Cats are known for not drinking much and consequently not having an adequate fluid intake, which is especially important on hot days. This is also often associated with serious health problems with the urinary tract and kidneys. Wet cat food contains a high percentage of liquid and thus ensures the cat's hydration! On particularly hot days, you can mix an extra tablespoon or two of water into the wet food.
The texture of cat food
Although it may not seem so important to us, the texture of food is very important to cats. There are various types of wet cat food:
- Pâté: finely ground, thick and spreadable. It can be mixed in with kibble or loosened with a spoon and served on its own.
- Mousse: also finely ground and of an even lighter texture than pâté. Especially suitable for kittens or older cats with dental problems.
- In jelly: some cats are simply crazy about pieces of meat in jelly!
- In gravy: pieces of meat in a thick meat gravy with an irresistible aroma and taste.
- In broth: pieces of meat in a lighter meat broth, ideal for keeping the cat hydrated!
Food according to the cat's age
Although wet food is mostly just a tasty supplement to kibble as a regular meal, and we can therefore allow ourselves a little more variety, wet cat food is also divided according to the cat's age.
- Kittens: wet food for kittens is gentle on digestion, with a soft texture and smaller pieces.
- Adults: food for adult cats is varied and suitable for most breeds and sizes of cats!
- Senior cats: food for older cats is easier to digest, soft, and may also contain functional ingredients for various problems that older cats face.
Wet food for neutered or spayed cats
Neutered (males) or spayed (females) cats are often prone to obesity, so it is advisable to offer them lower-calorie, adapted food. But this doesn't mean we have to deprive them of delicious wet food! We simply choose the food that is designed for neutered/spayed cats!
My cat is fussy – which flavour should I choose?
